
Uruguay government prepares to legalize marijuana. This step is done to fight crime problems associated with buying and selling marijuana illegally.

At present, there is no law against marijuana in Uruguay. Possession of drugs for personal consumption never be criminalized. However, people who consume marijuana cigarettes over the border, had to undergo rehabilitation.
Some residents questioned the effectiveness of Uruguay’s government policy. “People who consume cannabis would not buy from the government,” said Natalia Pereira (28), who admitted taking marijuana occasionally. “They do not believe it if you have to buy it in a place where people have to sign up and then watched.”
Psychologists who deal with people addicted to drugs, Juan Carlos Redin argues, the government should not interfere. “The question is, who will supply marijuana to the government,” he said.
Meanwhile, Allen St. Pierre member organization or NORML reform marijuana laws, said the policy would make Uruguay the first country in the world to sell marijuana.
